She was born in Košice. From 1978 she studied at the Faculty of Education of Comenius University in Trnava at the Department of Special Pedagogy with a focus on art therapy and completed her studies at the University of Košice. She gained further artistic experience, especially in the basics of drawing and perspective, in the studio of sculptor Ján Mathé and in the studio of Ladislav Vychodil. Since 1999 she has been living in Bratislava and devoting herself to painting and drawing. The painting work of Andrea Pistl Andrášová has an epic character. Each of her paintings has its own story, the plot of which resonates in the composition, in the color palette, and in the gestures of the figures. She finds inspiration for her work in literature and in well-known stories from history, but her greatest source of inspiration is her own inner world of feelings, personal and family mythologies, experiences, and knowledge. The key figure of her work is a woman, decisive, self-confident, and mysterious, but above all convincing even in complex moments and situations marked by love, passion, hope, gentle irony, and perhaps disappointment. She lives her own life, resonating with urban environments, certain social ties, and family background. The painterly language of Andrea Pistl Andrášová is based on realistic figuration, in which elements of cubism, fauvism, and expressionism faintly echo, and the influence of the artistic environment of Košice, which shaped her in the early days, cannot be overlooked. Andrea Pistl Andrášová is a skillful colorist, and her imagination and fantasy allow her to combine diverse details, even of a surreal nature, into compositions dominated by a unique medium: color. She paints her figures with a dynamic handwriting, often in bold shortcuts, daring to abstract shapes and seeking tension in the contrast of expressive and poetic elements. Bold drawing and a rich color palette with a predominance of red, blue, green, and yellow clearly have a symbolic meaning.
