Tara lives and works in Birmingham and is a creative intuitive artist. She gained a BA honours in fine art at Newcastle Upon Tyne specialising in print making. After gaining a PGCE in Education, she championed the importance of creativity in the curriculum in her role as an Arts Coordinator – gaining several Arts Council awards. Her educational research appeared in:Teachers and Young Researchers in Action. Viv Randell, Debbie Reel and Nicola Smith. In 2024 Tara made the decision to become a full-time emerging artist and has endeavoured to show her work in open studios, group shows and publication. My artwork explores themes of how precious, beautiful and fragile life is. I explore changing seasons as a metaphor for our own aging life cycles. For the last year I have been taking a family member for chemotherapy. My work comments on my daily feelings about loss and grief. Giving myself a set time each day to practise my creative skills has improved productivity. Being an artist that continues to be motivated, it is important that I enjoy the process. I have several techniques and practices that help with this enjoyment. Starting from a blank piece of paper or canvas, I often make random marks from left over paint. This act of scribbling and mark making in an instinctive way empowers me to begin the process of creative thinking. I try to eliminate feelings of failure. For example, if a work is going badly and I am having lots of problems with solving how to make it better, I will get my largest brush out and use it to paint over all the problem areas.
